Recycling: Can you recycle polystyrene? | Metro News

Metro.co.uk's Just1Change event showed readers how small changes can help save the planet.

Polystyrene comes in many forms, from peanuts in fluffy packaging to takeaway boxes and hot drink cups.

The white stuff is one of the most commonly used plastics in the UK-and like all plastics, the rate of biodegradation is very slow.

But can you recycle polystyrene? How to reuse it?

Polystyrene is 100% recyclable, but most British parliaments will not recycle it.

This is due to the high cost of building polystyrene compaction machinery, complex logistics, and the difficulty of collecting waste polystyrene.

This is not to say that there will be no global polystyrene recycling system in the future, because it can be compacted and transformed into hangers, park benches, flower pots, toys, rulers, staplers, seedling containers, photo frames, etc. Objects, and architectural shapes.

If you are determined to prevent your polystyrene from being wasted, you can use Recycle Now's online recycling locator to find the nearest place where you can recycle polystyrene.

You just need to make sure your polystyrene is clean before you put it down.

For those who cannot enter the polystyrene recycling center, it is recommended that they put the polystyrene in the trash can.

Some local authorities will accept it in your recycling bin, although it is actually unlikely to be recycled. You should check with your city council to see if they accept it.

When it was first invented in the 19th century, polystyrene was made from the resin of the Oriental gum tree.

However, modern versions are made from fossil fuels, just like most plastics.

Fluffy polystyrene is made by spraying plastic particles with steam, which causes the chemicals in it to expand and turn into fluffy white balls.

There are many ways to reuse polystyrene so that it doesn’t just go to landfill.
